We have some interesting new information regarding Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
According to reports from both Marco sources-Marc-Olivier Beaudoin and Marco D’Amico-Kent Hughes is seriously interested in acquiring Quebec-born centerman Joe Veleno.
Beaudoin even adds that an official offer may have already been submitted, but let’s keep that at the rumor stage for now.
“I’ve been told that the Habs may have submitted a one-year contract offer worth around $1,000,000 to Joe Veleno.”

The Canadiens May Have Submitted an Offer to Add 6-Foot-1 Center Joe Veleno to the Roster
On that topic, Marco D’Amico adds:
“Heard there was interest in Veleno yesterday as well from Montreal’s front.
But, as Marc-Olivier points out, they aren’t alone in that interest.
Because he’s already a UFA, Veleno was eligible to receive offers, but can’t sign anything until noon (similar to Toews’ situation).”
This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on this afternoon.
At 25 years old, Joe Veleno recorded 17 points in 74 games this season with the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks.
He was earning $2.275 million per year through 2026.
Veleno was the 30th overall pick (1st round) in the 2018 NHL Draft and had just been traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Seattle Kraken in the Andre Burakovsky deal.
