DETROIT. (WILX) – The Detroit Red Wings continue to make moves in NHL free agency, today agreeing to a two-year contract worth a reported $2.9 million per year with former Michigan State hockey player Mason Appleton.
Appleton, 29, played two seasons at Michigan State from 2015 to 2017 before signing with the Winnipeg Jets, who drafted him in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Appleton had 10 goals and 12 assists in 71 games for Winnipeg last season, adding seven assists in 13 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
