ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Rockford IceHogs have done a good job in recent weeks resigning key players like Brett Seney, Cavan Fitzgerald and Jackson Cates, but another very important player from last season has gotten away.
Forward Cole Guttman has signed a two-way, two-year contract with the Los Angeles Kings. He’ll get a shot to make the Kings roster. If he doesn’t, he’ll play for their AHL affiliate the Ontario Reign. If he makes the Kings, Guttman will be playing close to home. He’s from Northridge, California.
Guttman spent the bulk of the last three seasons with the IceHogs, and he made a major impact. Last season, he was the IceHogs leading scorer. In 70 regular season games he scored 23 goals and added 34 assists. He was named an AHL All-Star, and he also was an alternate captain for the IceHogs. During the 2022-23 season, Guttman was named the IceHogs’ Rookie of the Year.
Before turning pro, Guttman played four years with the University of Denver where he captained the Pioneers to the NCAA Championship in 2022.
