The Buffalo Sabres have made a slew of moves as the NHL free agency period began Tuesday.
Arguably the team’s biggest move was the re-signing of forward Ryan McLeod to a four-year contract extension worth $5 million per season. The speedy McLeod, acquired last summer from the Edmonton Oilers, scored 53 points in his debut season with Buffalo.
The Sabres also signed free-agent goaltender Alex Lyon to a two-year deal worth $1.5 million per season. Lyon spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, and is expected to battle with Devon Levi for the backup spot behind Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.
Other notable signings include:
Defenseman Zac Jones (one-year, two-way contract)
Defenseman Zach Metsa (two-year, two-way contract)
Forward Carson Meyer (two-year, two-way contract)
Forward Riley Fiddler-Schultz (two-year, two-way contract)
Forward Justin Danforth (two-year contract, worth $1.8 million per year)
Forward Tyson Kozak (three-year contract, worth $775,000 per year)
Defenseman Ryan Johnson (three-year contract, worth $775,000 per year)
Forward Mason Geertsen (two-year, two-way contract, worth $775,000 per year)
Defenseman Jack Rathbone (two-year, two-way contract, worth $775,000 per year)
The Sabres also acquired a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Sam Lafferty.
