NHL Insider Reveals Big Update on Stars’ Jason Robertson Situation originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Dallas Stars entered the offseason looking to build the team even stronger following another loss in the Western Conference Final. Dallas has a solid core in place but they just haven’t been able to get over the hump.

This could cause the front office to make some drastic changes, potentially even to some key players. One of those is star Jason Robertson, who has been rumored to be on the trade block this summer.

Dallas likely doesn’t want to lose Robertson, but the team does have to make a decision on giving him a new contract. Robertson has one more year on his current deal before he hits restricted free agency.

The Star may not want to pay Robertson what he believes he is worth, leading to potential trade rumors. And it seems that one team may be the leader to land him if he is traded.

According to NHL insider Jeff Marek, the Anaheim Ducks have emerged as a potential landing spot for Robertson if he leaves Dallas. Robertson and the Stars have been discussing a new deal, but it seems that talks could go off the rails.

“I don’t think Dallas Stars are going to let the Jason Robertson question linger deep into the summer; they’re going to find out pretty quick what number he’s looking at; I think Dallas will have an idea in pretty early July; I see Ducks as a destination,” Marek said.

For the Ducks, landing Robertson would be a massive addition to a young team. Anaheim has been building things back up, and Robertson could be the missing piece to the puzzle.

Robertson scored 35 goals and 45 assists for the Stars this past season. His ability to do everything on the ice is special, and Anaheim would surely try to land him if made available.

The Ducks have some interesting young prospects that could intrigue the Stars as well, making them a solid trade partner. It remains to be seen if Dallas will trade Robertson, but it feels like things will be falling into place sooner rather than later.
