Top NHL Insider Reveals Most Likely Outcome of Tampering Involving Vegas and Leafs’ Mitch Marner

NHL insider Chris Johnston has revealed whether or not the Golden Knights will face any penalties for their potential tampering involving ex-Leafs star Mitch Marner.There are a few clues to point towards like Marner mentioning that he had spoken with Knights goaltender Adin Hill and forward Mark Stone when they were teammates for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Faceoff tournament. Marner himself confirmed that they discussed several things including the organization and living arrangements in the city.NHL insiders were also very quick to point out during the short window between the draft and free agency that the league was looking to make an example out of somebody for tampering. With some rather harsh penalties that could be incurred towards player and team, the NHL was itching to do something.
The NHL has had a myriad of issues with teams and players over the last few years when it came to free agency and how quickly these deals were being reported once the 12:00 PM window opened up. They didn’t like how it looked or how insiders got all the scoops ahead of time.
However, with regard to this situation, it does sound like nothing will come of it, at least according to NHL insider Chris Johnston. Not only would he be surprised to see any punishments doled out, but he doesn’t believe the Maple Leafs will be pursuing any action either.
In the end it was best for both sides to find greener pastures and although it came down to the 11th hour, the Maple Leafs were able to strike for a sign-and-trade and acquired forward Nicolas Roy, who is expected to play heavy minutes as a 3rd line center and primary penalty killer.
The Marner era can officially be closed with his departure to the Knights, and with the Leafs seemingly taking the high road, not pursuing any actions for tampering.
