It would appear as though one former Maple Leafs defenseman could be on the move once again as his new team has already placed him on the trading block.

It didn’t take long after the start of the 2024-25 season kicked off before the Toronto Maple Leafs pulled the trigger on a trade involving former 1st round draft pick Timothy Liljegren.

Once viewed as a potential cornerstone for the Leafs’ blueline, Liljegren never did live up to his draft hype, despite being given numerous opportunities in Toronto to stake his claim to a top-4 roster spot.

Now, less than a year after being moved, The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta has confirmed that the Sharks have made Liljegren available for trade, along with Henry Thrun, in an attempt to free up a roster spot on the blueline.

While a return to Toronto doesn’t seem likely, Liljegren shouldn’t have much of an issue finding a new NHL home as he does possess some skills as a two-way defenseman that teams may covet.

Liljegren suited up in 67 games for the Sharks last season, producing 6 goals and 11 assists, totalling 17 points in his first season in San Jose. He also suited up in 1 game for the Leafs in October before the trade, recording no points.
