The Maple Leafs reportedly had been poking around the Blues for top-6 help in young Jordan Kyrou as they continue to diligently work the phones this off-season to address their needs.

It’s no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been working the phones this off-season in order to address their top-6 needs. That came from the horse’s mouth when Brad Treliving addressed the shallow free agent pool and how there’s not much help in there for him at this moment.

The trade market is exactly where Treliving should be, considering all the names that were popping up before the draft. One name in particular that the Leafs were trying to acquire is that of St. Louis Blues forward Jordan Kyrou.

The Blues were reportedly shopping him ahead of the draft and the Maple Leafs held serious interest in the Toronto native. The kicker was that his full NTC would kick in on July 1st, so the Blues had a bit of a reason to pursue a deal.

In the end, nothing materialized as Kyrou remains a Blue until 2031 with a cap hit of $8.13 million. However, the door might not be fully closed. With only $625K in salary remaining and the Blues still big game hunting, Kyrou could be asked to waive his NTC for the right situation.

In the meantime, Treliving could pivot his attention towards Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues. The Panthers are $2.95 over the cap and between Rodrigues, Eetu Luostarinen, and Nikko Mikkola, the 31-year-old becomes the odd man out with a cap hit perfectly set at $3 million.Look for Treliving to remain aggressive as he continues to peruse the market for top-six talent. He understands the dire need with Mitch Marner no longer in the fold and isn’t wasting any time going after top players.
