Since arriving with the Montreal Canadiens in the winter of 2022, it’s fair to say Kent Hughes has made his mark. More and more, we’re starting to see the fruits of his work.

Some are even calling him a genius, and when you look at the two other major acquisitions he just pulled off, it’s hard not to get excited.

What’s more, as the excellent Jared Book points out, the price paid was pretty incredible.

Hired to oversee a rebuild, the former player agent has managed to significantly improve his team over the past few days-without sacrificing much of his core lineup.

As columnist Jared Book from Habs EOTP reports, the Canadiens only gave up four assets to land Noah Dobson and Zachary Bolduc.”Kent Hughes only spending two mid-1st round picks (one of which was just given to him) to upgrade Logan Mailloux to Noah Dobson and Emil Heineman to Zachary Bolduc is wizardry.”

Without going through every transaction Kent Hughes has made since his hiring, it’s clear that many teams would have paid much more to acquire players of Dobson and Bolduc’s caliber.

Giving up just Emil Heineman and Logan Mailloux likely won’t hurt the organization in the short term, and it’ll be a while before we know the full impact of the two first-round picks sent to the New York Islanders in exchange for Noah Dobson.

These are two acquisitions we’ll probably be talking about for a long time!
