Beginning of this NHL calendar year, third-line winger Yegor Sharangovich’s five-year $28,750,000 contract kicked in. According to PuckPedia, it’s AAV of $5,8750,000 is the highest amongst all third-line left wingers in the league.

And when you compare his stats from last season, he’s not been productive as some of the others. Eight of the 32 third-line left-wingers on non-Entry Level Contracts produced more points than him last season despite getting paid significantly less, including Vegas’ Brett Howden who also just signed a brand new five-year contract. His contract carries an AAV of $2,500,000 after scoring 40 points in the 2024-25 season, compared to Sharangovich who will be earning $3,375,000 more per year while having scored eight points less.

And the primary line where he played right-wing last season (TOI of 101:13) with Morgan Frost and Martin Pospisil saw less expected goals despite having more time on ice than the lines of  Ryan Lomberg-Kevin Rooney-Adam Klapka (TOI of 88:22), Pospisil-Nazem Kadri-Connor Zary (TOI of 98:16), and Blake Coleman-Mikael Backlund-Michael Farabee (TOI of 96:24).

It’s goes without saying that the the 27-year-old needs to rekindle the fire that led him to score 31 goals and 59 points two seasons ago.

Speaking of Farabee, while the Syracuse native was just traded to Southern Alberta in late January, he didn’t live up to the same standards he had put up in Philly, scoring six points in 30 games. This season up ahead will be a new start for the 25-year-old and Calgary fans will be hoping he puts up better numbers.

And the 26-year-old centre Frost who just signed a two-year, $8,750,000 contract has admitted that he needs to be better this upcoming Flames’ campaign.

Simply put, if this third-line shows up, Calgary can make some memories this season for their fans.
