The Penn State Men’s Ice Hockey team has reportedly secured Gavin McKenna – the No. 1 prospect in the 2026 NHL Draft, for the upcoming season.

Mckenna’s decision ultimately came down to choosing between Michigan State or the Nittany Lions.

The 17-year-old Canadian, considered the most sought after recruit in college hockey history, posted 129 points last year leading the Medicine Hat Tigers to the WHL title.

Penn State won the Allentown Regional at PPL Center in April to reach the Frozen Four. With the addition of McKenna, Guy Gadowsky’s squad will be a strong contender to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament again in the 2025-26 season.
