A former Vancouver Canucks forward is returning to the National Hockey League for the 2025-26 campaign after spending one season overseas in the KHL.
We still have a long ways to go this offseason and there are still several more former Vancouver Canucks that are looking for a new home for the 2025-26 campaign and it looks like one has this week, making a return to the National Hockey League after one year in Europe.

“The Washington Capitals have signed forward Sheldon Rempal to a one-year, two-way contract, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today. Rempal’s contract will carry an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level and $450,000 in AHL.” the Capitals said.
Rempal, 29, joined the Vancouver Canucks organization on July 28th, 2021 as an unrestricted free agent, signing a one-year deal with the club worth $750,000 US.
The Calgary, Alberta native only appeared in one game in the NHL for Vancouver during the 2021-22 campaign, as he spent the majority of the year with AHL Abbotsford, leading them with 69 points (33 goals, 36 assists) in 55 games.
Last summer, Rempal left North America for the first time in his hockey career as he agreed to terms on a one-year deal with KHL club Ufa Salavat Yulayev and it turned out to be quite a successful year for him.
Rempal finished the regular season fourth in the KHL in points with 61 (31 goals, 30 assists) and went on to add 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 19 games during the Gagarin Cup Playoffs.
It’s going to be interesting to see if Rempal is able to land a spot on Washington’s opening night roster, but if he doesn’t, there’s no doubt that he’ll be in the National Hockey League at some point this coming season.
