Boston University forward Jack Hughes has signed a two-year deal with the AHL’s Ontario Reign, it was announced earlier this week.

Hughes, a 2022 second round pick of the Los Angeles Kings, just finished his fourth season in the NCAA and his second with the Terriers, scoring seven goals and adding 18 assists for 25 points in 40 games. Over a combined 149 career games with the Terriers and Northeastern, Hughes collected 26 goals and 50 assists for 76 points.

Prior to making the jump to the NCAA, Hughes spent two seasons with the U.S. NTDP as well as time playing his minor hockey with the Boston Jr. Eagles. His best offensive season with the NTDP, in terms of total points, came in his time with the U17 team where he put up 38 points in 49 games.

The son of Montreal Canadiens GM Kent Hughes, Jack has looked solid throughout his NCAA career and now makes the jump to the AHL. While he might take some time to adjust to the rigours of the pro game – like many young players do – Hughes looks like someone who will make an impact down the line for the Reign and potentially for the Kings as well.
