Former Maple Leafs forward Riley Nash announced his retirement from the NHL on Wednesday, capping off a 12 year career.
On Wednesday, another name was added to the list of retired NHL players, as forward Riley Nash announced he was stepping away after 12 seasons in the NHL.
Nash steps away after missing the entirety of the 2024-25 season with injuries, and having just turned 36, decided that a life after hockey was something more enticing and appealing to the former forward.
A Riley Nash Retrospective
No relation to for superstar Rick Nash, Riley carved out a very solid career for himself as a role player, and was a great mentor to younger members of the roster and played his heart out every game.
Drafted 21st overall by the Edmonton Oilers in 2017, Nash never skated for the team, being traded in 2010 for a pick that would later become Martin Marincin.
He spent five seasons with the Hurricanes before signing as a free agent with Boston in 2016. He became a journeyman and was on and off waivers multiple times in his career.
Nash was acquired by the Maple Leafs in 2021, but only skated in two playoff games for the team before departing.
In 628 career games, Nash registered 176 points (63 goals, 113 assists) and spent time with Carolina, Columbus, Boston, Arizona, Toronto, New York (Rangers), Winnipeg and Tampa Bay.
Nash’s best season came in 2017-18 where he had 41 points in 76 games for the Bruins (15 goals, 26 assists).
He joins the list of players such as TJ Oshie, Nick Bonino, Christian Fischer and Matt Martin as all former players who decided to hang up the skates before the 2025-26 season.
Congratulations on your retirement, Riley. It’s well deserved, and you can rest easy knowing you had a long and varied career in hockey’s biggest league.
