The Vancouver Canucks have officially announced the signing of 2025 first round pick Braeden Cootes less than a week after Development Camp concluded.Nearly two weeks ago, the Vancouver Canucks used their first round pick (15th overall) to select centerman Braeden Cootes from the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Thunderbirds and in the last 12 days, he’s made quite an impression on the team and the fan base.

In a post on social media on Wednesday afternoon, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they’ve signed forward prospect Braeden Cootes to a three-year, entry-level contract which begins immediately.

“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with forward Braeden Cootes on a three-year, entry-level contract.” the Canucks said.

While the full financial details of Braeden Cootes’ entry-level contract haven’t been released just yet, according to Rick Dhaliwal, the prospect landed a $500,000 US bonus as part of the deal.

“1st round pick Braeden Cootes signs with the Canucks.

Cootes got 500,000 dollars in A bonuses.” Dhaliwal said.

Cootes, a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, becomes the fourth member of the NHL’s 2025 draft class to sign their entry-level contract joining Seattle’s Jake O’Brien, Pittsburgh’s Ben Kindel and Washington’s Lynden Lakovic.Because Braeden Cootes signed his entry-level contract in the NHL, he is now no longer eligible to play in the NCAA and even though he had offers to head down south, it was reported recently by Rick Dhaliwal that he would be returning to Seattle in the Western Hockey League for the 2025-26 season.

“Cootes will play in Seattle next year, will not be heading to the NCAA.” Dhaliwal said.

In 60 games last season for the Thunderbirds, Cootes registered 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists), 18 penalty minutes and was a plus-five and after Seattle was eliminated from the postseason, he went on to captain Canada to gold at the 2025 IIHF U18 World Championship.
