He continued to play in the game and returned to the ice for Saturday’s matchup against Canada but did not play Monday night against Team Sweden.According to the Bruins, McAvoy was originally treated by Team USA’s medical staff but developed increasing pain after returning to Boston.”After undergoing x-rays, MRIs, and bloodwork, he was diagnosed as having an infection in his right shoulder, as well as a significant injury to his (acromioclavicular) joint,” Dr. Peter Asnis said in a statement distributed by the Bruins.The team previously said McAvoy was being treated at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent a procedure Tuesday. “He underwent an irrigation and debridement procedure,” the Bruins said. “He remains in the hospital, where he is being treated with IV antibiotics, and his condition is improving.”McAvoy was ruled out for Team USA and will not play in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game Thursday at TD Garden.McAvoy had surgery on his left shoulder in 2022.
