Anyone who’s played a round of golf knows there’s a not single piece of equipment that can fix a broken game. That’s just not how this sport works. There are, however, a number of accessories that can make a round more enjoyable.
You can throw a speaker in the golf cart, sneak a few cocktails onto the course in your bag and even dial up the range finder to make things a bit easier. None of this will improve your swing, but it’ll certainly improve the vibes out there.
That has to be the only reason someone would buy Odyssey’s $500 Happy Gilmore hockey stick putter.
Trust me, as a former high school hockey player who sucks at golf, I’ve absolutely tried using an old wooden stick with no blade curve thinking that would cure my ails on the green. It did not. It made me look even more foolish.
But that’s the point here, right? If you want to make your playing partners laugh and get silly on the course (an objectively good thing in a sport designed to make you go mad), Odyssey’s putter is probably worth the investment. It’s a practical joke only millennials and Gen X can fully appreciate — though the sock cover is, admittedly, a fantastic touch.
All of this is to say I would absolutely try using this putter if given the chance. But I’d do it for the memes and memories, not the expectation it’s actually going to make a difference. Is that worth $500? Depends on whether or not your Happy Place has a putting green.
