Former Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler was back in the spotlight on Friday night during an MLB game between the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners.
With the National Hockey League in the middle of their offseason, Major League Baseball has taken over televisions across North America, especially here in Canada with the Toronto Blue Jays in first place in the American League East entering action on Saturday, with a two-game lead over the New York Yankees.
In recent years, we’ve seen NHL players flock to MLB ballparks wherever they may be from in the United States and on Friday night, former Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler was in attendance to watch his favourite team, the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers, and he happened to be caught on camera after a big moment in the game.
Ryan Kesler caught on camera at Detroit Tigers-Seattle Mariners game on Friday
On Friday night at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, the Tigers, who have been the best team in Major League Baseball this season, opened up a three-game series against the current home run leader, Cal Raleigh, and the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners haven’t been playing the greatest of late after being swept by the New York Yankees this week in the Bronx and were looking to turn things around starting on Friday and they did exactly that.
The aforementioned Cal Raleigh went deep twice in the game, giving him 38 home runs on the season thus far, including a ninth-inning grand slam to extend Seattle’s lead to 12-3.
After Cal Raleigh rounded the bases, Apple TV cameras panned to the outfield where they showed former Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler grab the home run ball and throw it back onto the field, which technically is against stadium policy, but given how late into the game it was and who he is, it seems unlikely that Comerica Park staff would’ve kicked him out.

“Former NHL star Ryan Kesler was in the stands at Comerica Park – and threw back Cal Raleigh’s grand slam ball” Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit said on X.
The final score stood at 12-3 for the Seattle Mariners as they moved half-a-game back of the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Wild Card standings and for the Tigers, they hold a 12.5 game lead for first in the AL Central with a record of 59-36.
