Forward Kieffer Bellows has decided to take his talents overseas to Sweden as the one-time Marlies forward tries to get his career back on track with Brynas IF.
Former New York Islanders first-round pick Kieffer Bellows is one of those players, and decided to make sure he found a home next season. The former 19th overall pick inked a deal with Brynas IF of the SHL.
The SHL might not be as popular as the NHL but it’s a fantastic way to keep them sharp and give them more of a chance to play regularly, and as we’ve seen before; if you shine over there, teams will certainly come knocking.
Bellows spent last seasons with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, registering 31 points in 44 games (15 goals, 16 assists).
He spent one season with the Maple Leafs organization in 2023-24, scoring 49 points in 52 games (27 goals, 22 assists) but was solely with the Toronto Marlies.
Bellows’ no stranger to the NHL though, and it’s not like he’s been an AHL lifer for his career thus far. In 144 games he has 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists), 37 PIM and a minus-12 rating.
He’s played with the Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Nashville Predators in his five-year career thus far.
Bellows and Brynas: A match made in heaven
I’m very happy to have signed with Brynäs. I’ve heard a lot about this club, about the success and the proud history.
Hopefully we can write a new chapter together. Of course, I’ve also heard a lot about the fantastic fan base.
What mainly formed the basis for my decision is the winning culture that permeates the entire organization; from the players to the management. I am really looking forward to the upcoming season.
Kieffer is a robust player who has always been good at finding and creating scoring opportunities on entry and in dangerous situations.
He also has a really good shot. Despite his relatively young age, Kieffer has managed to gather a lot of valuable experience from both NHL and World Cup games.
He is a person with a strong winning mentality and works hard to get better every day. We believe that Kieffer will become an important player in our forward lineup and it will be exciting to see him in Brynäs IF and the SHL.
It seems that for Bellows, Sweden offered a great way to keep his career going, with much less pressure and a group of former NHL players ready to welcome him in.
