The Pittsburgh Penguins have added a new name to their goaltending rotation, acquiring a former Calder Cup MVP from the Vancouver Canucks.

On Sunday, the Penguins traded for the Canucks’ Arturs Silovs in exchange for forward Chase Stillman and a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Silovs, 24, comes to Pittsburgh after a breakout run in the AHL, where he backstopped the Abbotsford Canucks to their first Calder Cup title while earning playoff MVP honors.
The netminder went 16–7 with a 2.01 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage in 24 playoff games, including posting five shutouts, after appearing in 21 regular-season games.
Silovs’ NHL numbers last season, however, were less convincing. The goalie only played 10 regular-season games with the Canucks, posting a 2–6–1 record with a 3.65 GAA and .861 save percentage.

“We would like thank Arturs for everything he has done for the hockey club, including helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said. “We wanted to give him an opportunity elsewhere as we feel we are very well positioned in goal at the NHL, AHL and developmental level. Acquiring a future pick and depth forward will add to our organizational depth.”

The Penguins bolstered an already-deep pipeline in net, with Silovs joining a group that includes Sergei Murashov, Joel Blomqvist, Filip Larsson, and incumbent NHL starter Tristan Jarry.
With Alex Nedeljkovic traded earlier this month and no clear backup behind Jarry, Silovs could compete for the clear-cut backup role in training camp.

Silovs is under contract through 2025–26 at a manageable $850,000 cap hit as part of a two-year deal he signed in July 2024.
