The Buffalo Sabres made a move to keep their young defense intact late last night.

The team announced they agreed to a 2-year deal with defenseman Bo Byram worth just over $6 million dollars per year.

Byram joined the Buffalo Sabres in March of 2024 when he was traded to Buffalo for center Casey Mittelstadt. Since joining the team, Byram has 10 goals and 37 assists for a total of 47 points. He played in every game last season and was considered a key member of the Sabres’ blueline.

Byram was a restricted free agent, and there was a lot of talk that the Sabres could move off of him at the start of free agency. That didn’t happen, and now he has a new 2 year deal. He could still be traded even after the new deal, but it looks like he is here to stay for a little while longer with the Sabres.

The Sabres have been pretty quiet during free agency this offseason so far. Do you think they have done enough or have enough of the right players in the right spots to make the playoffs this season?

6 Buffalo Sabres That Need Breakout Seasons To End Playoff Drought

Assuming no trades, the Sabres will be relying on their own to continue to take steps forward and have a breakout season in order to end the playoff drought. Who, though, needs to have a breakout year? There are 6 players, I feel, who could (possibly) propel the Sabres into the playoffs by having career years. This is also assuming no major injuries or drop-offs from other players.
