The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Radim Mrtka to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday.

The Sabres drafted the 6’6″ Mrtka with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft.

The right-handed defenseman had 35 points in 43 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL in his first season in North America.

Mrtka, 18, impressed in Sabres development camp in Buffalo earlier this month, earning praise from Rochester Americans Head Coach Michael Leone.

“His ability to skate and use his stick and bend is really good, and I think it was really good for him to come to camp and see all the other players,” Leone said.
