RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The Vegas Golden Knights are once again including Reno on their annual summer road trip on which they look to grow their fanbase and help kids get involved in hockey.
“We know that we have a real good pocket of fans in Reno,” said Golden Knights broadcaster Gary Lawless. “We’re Nevada’s NHL team for sure.”
The team’s annual road trip stopped in Lake Tahoe on Saturday and Reno Ice on Sunday.
“We just want to bring our brand of hockey all around our and celebrate with our fans, that includes growing youth hockey and being in the community,” said Sheri Hudspeth, director of youth hockey programs for the VGK.
The road trip for the Golden Knights representatives comes after the team made big news just weeks prior, adding former Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner. And that allowed Lawless to make a bold statement

“The 2015 NHL draft is considered the greatest class ever,” he emphasized. “Connor McDavid went number one. Jack Eichel went number two. Dylan Strohm went number three. Mitch Marner went number four. Noah Hannafin went number five. Three of the top five from the 2015 draft class now play for the Golden Knights. Nevada hockey fans are going to love watching Mitch Marner play.”
After after this stop in Reno, the representatives from the Vegas Golden Knights will head to Arizona, as that is a state that no longer has an NHL team looking to expand their fan base there as well.
