We have an acquisition to announce for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens. In the last few minutes, it was announced that center Joe Veleno, who was let go and bought out by the Seattle Kraken, is officially joining the Canadiens!

The Canadiens released an official statement:

Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, one-way contract with forward Joe Veleno.

At 25 years old, Joe Veleno recorded 17 points in 74 games this season with the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks.

He was earning $2.275 million per year until 2026, but that contract was indeed bought out by the Seattle Kraken.

Veleno was the 30th overall pick (1st round) of the 2018 draft and had just been traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Seattle Kraken in the Andre Burakovsky deal before seeing his contract bought out.

It’ll be interesting to see what this left-handed center – a Quebec native, no less – can bring to the Canadiens organization.
