Tarrytown NY: Rangers prospects show skills at development camp
NY Rangers prospects skate during a development camp at the MSG Training Center in Tarrytown July 1, 2025.
The New York Rangers are aiming to wipe away the stench from a turbulent 2024-25 season, and now we know the road they’ll have to travel to accomplish their goal of getting back to the playoffs.
The NHL released the full schedule for the 2025-26 regular season on July 16, with the Blueshirts set to open the franchise’s 100th season at home on October 7. Their opponent will be the Pittsburgh Penguins, pitting new head coach Mike Sullivan against the team he spent a decade with and led to two Stanley Cup titles.
It’ll be a heavy travel schedule after that, with 25 of New York’s first 43 games coming on the road. That includes the 2026 Winter Classic in Miami against the two-time defending champion Panthers.
One of the more noteworthy home games in the first half of the season will come on December 15, when Chris Kreider and former captain Jacob Trouba return to Madison Square Garden for the first time since being traded to the Anaheim Ducks.
Later on, the Rangers will go 35 days without an away game, including all of February. There will be a three-week break in the middle of that stretch for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
In an odd twist, they won’t see one of their chief rivals − the New Jersey Devils − until March 7. Then they’ll play them three times in a span of 25 days.
