The NHL Draft lottery takes place on May 5 ahead of next month’s draft, and the Nashville Predators have a heavily vested interest in the process for the first time in more than a decade.

No matter what happens in the lottery, the Predators will own a top-5 pick for the first time since 2013.

But Nashville can pick as high as No. 1 or as low as No. 5 in the first round on June 27, and it will matter which pick it will get locked into at the top of the first round.

Canadian defenseman Matthew Schaefer and Canadian center Michael Misa are atop of most 2025 draft prospect ranking lists, and either would be the jewel of the Predators’ prospect system while meeting an important need. The rest of the top half of the draft is less certain, though with plenty of talent.

Here are the No. 1 overall pick odds and probabilities for each team ahead of the lottery:

San Jose Sharks: 25.5%Chicago Blackhawks: 13.5%Nashville Predators: 11.5%Philadelphia Flyers: 9.5%Boston Bruins: 8.5%Seattle Kraken: 7.5%Buffalo Sabres: 6.5%Anaheim Ducks: 6.0%Pittsburgh Penguins: 5.0%New York Islanders: 3.5%New York Rangers: 3.0%Detroit Red Wings: 0% (can move up as high as No. 2 overall with 2.5% odds)Columbus Blue Jackets: 0% (can move up as high as No. 3 overall with 2.0% odds)Utah Hockey Club: 0% (can move up as high as No. 4 overall with 1.5% odds)Vancouver Canucks: 0% (can move up as high as No. 5 overall with 0.5% odds)Montreal Canadiens (from Calgary): 0% (can move up as high as No. 6 overall with 0.5% odds)The NHL draws twice in the draft lottery.Only teams 1-11 above can earn the top pick, while teams 12-16 can only move up a maximum of 10 spots. The first draw will settle the top pick; if Detroit, Columbus, Utah, Vancouver or the Calgary pick traded to Montreal is drawn first, it will move up 10 spots in the order while San Jose locks into the No. 1 pick. Otherwise, whichever team wins the first draw will earn the No. 1 pick. The process repeats for the second pick. The remaining draft order slots in by regular season points, from fewest to most.Nashville has a 11.5% chance to get the No. 1 pick. But due to the odds across the board, it is more likely that the Predators move down than move up or stay put. That is also the case for any of the teams in the top five of the order. The Predators cannot earn a pick any lower than No. 5 overall.

The NHL Draft lottery will be televised by ESPN. Streaming options for the game include FUBO, which offers a free trial to new subscribers.
