A former Vancouver Canucks goaltender and veteran of nearly 150 NHL games has decided to leave North America for the first time in his professional hockey career.
This week, yet another former Vancouver Canucks goaltender made the decision to find a new home overseas for the 2025-26 campaign after 13 professional seasons in North America.

In a press release on Thursday morning, KHL club Sibir Novosibirsk announced that they’ve agreed to terms on a one-year contract with unrestricted free agent goaltender Louis Domingue.Note: the following was translated from Russian.
“Hockey club Sibir signed a one-year contract with 33-year-old Canadian goalie Louis Domingue.” the team said.
Domingue, a native of St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, was a fifth round pick of the Coyotes back in 2010 and has gone on to appear in 144 games in the National Hockey League with them, the Tampa Bay Lightning, New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Pittsburgh Penguins and the New Jersey Devils.
In February 2020, just a couple of weeks before the NHL’s covid shutdown, the Vancouver Canucks acquired Louis Domingue in a trade with the New Jersey Devils and he went on to appear in just one game with the club.
During that lone game as a Vancouver Canuck, which came on March 1st against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Domingue made 30 saves on 34 shots in a 5-3 loss where he had a 4.08 goals against average and an .882 save percentage.
In those aforementioned 144 career games in the National Hockey League, Domingue has a record of 61-60-10, a 3.02 goals against average, a .906 save percentage and two shutouts.
Heading to the KHL provides Domingue with a solid opportunity to get starts in one of Europe’s top leagues and if all goes well, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him land a new contract to return to the National Hockey League next summer.
