An NHL insider has given an update this week regarding rumors surrounding the Vancouver Canucks’ interest in a former first round pick on the free agent market.

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin is continuing his search for some center depth as we head deeper into the offseason and the club has a bit more money to work with after trading Dakota Joshua and his $3.25 million salary to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday afternoon.Vancouver has been linked to a number of centermen in the last month or so, two of which they made offers to on the free agent market on Canada Day, including former Montreal Canadien Christian Dvorak, and it appears that an ex-first round pick could be on their radar.

NHL insider gives update on Vancouver Canucks’ potential interest in Jack Roslovic

Shortly after the Canucks dealt Dakota Joshua to the Maple Leafs, insider Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali shared on social media that Vancouver have had talks with unrestricted free agent forward Jack Roslovic.”Is there a match between the Canucks and Jack Roslovic?

There have been talks with the Canucks and his camp.” Dhaliwal said.

Thomas Drance of The Athletic also confirmed that there have been discussions between the Canucks and Roslovic’s camp regarding a contract and if a deal were to get done at some point, it more than likely will be a two-year deal, adding that Vancouver has had their eye on the former first rounder at various time his tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

“Jack Roslovic’s name is of particular interest here. CHEK TV and The Athletic’s Rick Dhaliwal reported that there have been talks between the Canucks and Roslovic’s camp, which matches what I’ve heard.

I would add that in the event the Canucks opt to pursue Roslovic, they’d likely do so on a multiyear deal – probably two years – as opposed to just doing a one-year show-me type contract.” Drance said.

Roslovic, a native of Columbus, Ohio, had a solid year with the Hurricanes, putting up 39 points in 81 games, while tying career-high in goals with 22 and went on to add four points in nine contests during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Obviously, Jack Roslovic isn’t a second line centerman and is unlikely to play that role until injuries pop up, but he would be a good third liner for the Canucks and it’s a bit shocking that he’s still unsigned, 18 years into the free agent market.

We’ll have to wait and see what develops over the weekend, but it would be a pretty good addition to the Vancouver Canucks lineup, if Patrik Allvin is able to get a deal done with the 28-year-old.
