A three-time 20+ goal scorer could be a potential free agent option for the Vancouver Canucks and Patrik Allvin to consider with the team now having some additional cap space to work with.

After a very busy first few weeks of the National Hockey League’s offseason, the Vancouver Canucks are continuing to search the free agent and trade markets for forward help and aren’t done adding just yet.”It may be mid-summer, but #Canucks management isn’t “off to the cottage” just yet.

Hear the club is monitoring a couple of the UFA options still on the market. No surprise given their recent history.

VAN needs to move out cap dollars first, + they’re actively working to do so.” Thomas Drance of The Athletic said.

The NHL’s free agent market is quite thin now, with all of the top names off the board, which is understandable given that it’s already July 19th, however there are a few names to keep an eye on in the days and weeks ahead.

Three-time 20+ goal scorer could be option for Vancouver Canucks

During a recent article on Canucks Army, Stephan Roget took a look at some players that the Vancouver Canucks could target on the free agent market this summer after they opened up an additional $3.25 million in cap space by trading Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Among the names mentioned by Roget recently was 30-year-old Swedish winger Victor Olofsson, who had a bit of a bounce-back year with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2024-25 after they signed him as an unrestricted free agent.

Olofsson is a three-time 20+ goal scorer, with a career-high of 28 which came during the 2022-23 season when he was a member of the Buffalo Sabres.

“By all accounts, Olofsson is quite literally just a shooter, capable of piling up goals, especially on the power play, but not able to contribute in many ways beyond that. He’s fine enough as a PP mercenary on a deep forward roster like Vegas, but one really struggles to see what he’d add to a Canucks’ roster that already has some big shooters like Brock Boeser and Evander Kane.” Roget said.

It’s a little surprising that Olofsson is still available on the league’s free agent market and at this point, if he’s not signed within the next three-to-four weeks, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him either return to his home nation of Sweden or land a professional tryout (PTO) with an NHL club.

In 56 games with the Golden Knights last season, the Ornskoldsvik, Sweden native had 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a plus-17.
