Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers recently opened up about Thatcher Demko‘s return to full health after dealing with several injuries in the last 12+ months.Fans of the Vancouver Canucks were treated to some fantastic news on the morning of July 1st as the team locked up star goaltender Thatcher Demko to a three-year contract extension beginning in the 2026-27 campaign which will now keep him in British Columbia for the next four seasons.
Demko’s contract extension not only thrilled fans of the team, but Canucks players were also very happy to see a deal get done with the star netminder, including defenseman Tyler Myers.
Vancouver Canucks’ Tyler Myers shares very high praise for Thatcher Demko
During an appearance on the Cam & Strick Podcast last week, Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers opened up about quite bit about several topics surrounding the team lately including the feud between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, their struggles during the 2024-25 season and of course, Thatcher Demko.
Myers was full of praise for his netminder, calling him “world class” and that they’re glad to see him return to full health after a very difficult past 12-14 months where he dealt with multiple injuries.
“Demmer is world class. You know, when anyone asks about him, asks any of us about him, we always say it’s hard to explain how good this guy actually is.” Myers said. “I know he’s feeling good coming into this year, so I’m excited for him to have that feeling because I know there were times last year where it got tough for him. We’ve all been through it, experiences I had with injuries, I tried to tell him ‘you’re going to get through it’ and the way he’s feeling now, he’s excited and I’m excited for him because he’s that good and he’s great in the room. Really happy for him.”
Having Thatcher Demko return to 100 percent health is massive for the Vancouver Canucks as it’ll allow him to go back to being the team’s starting goaltender, alleviating some pressure from Kevin Lankinen, who in turn could end up becoming one of the best backups in the league, if he is able to replicate what he did last season.
If, and it’s a big if, Thatcher Demko is able to return to his Vezina Trophy finalist form from two seasons ago, along with some other players having a bounce back year, the Vancouver Canucks could be a serious threat in the Pacific Division as they look to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
