Former University of Maine hockey winger Ryan Lomberg is featured in a video that announces the 2025-26 schedule of his current team, the National Hockey League’s Calgary Flames.

The two-minute, eight-second video is ‘Rambo’-themed and entitled ‘Lombo.’

The 30-year-old Lomberg is a fan favorite because of his hard-nosed, heavy-hitting style of play despite the fact he is an undersized player at 5-foot-9, 187 pounds.

Lomberg’s character in the video is a spoof on the role popularized by Sylvester Stallone in his five action-filled ‘Rambo’ movies, featuring a decorated Green Beret war hero saves innocent lives with his highly-skilled and violent tactics — or takes on people who become his enemies.

Lomberg is shirtless and shoeless in the parody video and wearing a red headband with a Calgary Flames chain around his neck. He roams the woods and fields with a hockey stick the size of a boomerang.

The intro to the video says, “They sent him on a mission and set him up to fail. But they made one mistake. They forgot they were dealing with Lombo.”

The video shows a passenger jet and the print lists the dates of Flames games against the Winnipeg Jets. Lomberg hurls his stick at the jet and there is a clang.

He takes out a pair of binoculars and locates ducks. The print shows the date of games with the Anaheim Ducks.

He hears music emanating from some deep grass and appears to find a headphone and puts it in his ear and starts bobbing his head to the music. That signifies the home opener against the St. Louis Blues.

He is seen eating a sandwich, perhaps a Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich, to announce a New Year’s eve home game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Lomberg is shown in the Flames’ empty arena, sitting in a seat and reading the program for the Winter Olympics in Italy which will involve NHL players and will shut down the league from Feb. 5-25. Crickets are chirping in the background and Lomberg has a big yawn.

He holds his stick in the air and it gets struck by lightning to announce the date of a Tampa Bay Lightning game; he stomps on leaves with a Toronto Maple Leaf game date listed; and he peeks from around a tree to see a growling panther and announce the date of a game with the defending two-time champion Florida Panthers.

His head emerges from water with the hockey stick between his teeth to announce a game against Vancouver. Soon after, he jumps onto a plastic shark in the water and wrestles with it to announce the dates of San Jose Sharks games.

The video ends with him walking out of an oil rig/work site with explosions in background to point out game dates against arch-rival Edmonton, including their season-opener against the Oilers in Edmonton on Oct. 8.

Lomberg played the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons at UMaine where he notched 18 goals and 14 assists in 66 games. He was suspended from the team for an off-campus altercation on April 26, 2014 and he left the program.

He played in the United States Hockey League in 2014-15 and then signed a pro contract.

He eventually signed a free agent contract with Calgary on March 19, 2017 but spent most of his two seasons playing in the AHL for the Stockton Heat before moving on to Florida. He played the next four seasons with the Panthers including their first Stanley Cup title in 2023-24.

He returned to Calgary last season after signing a two-year, $4 million contract.

In 337 career NHL regular season games, he has tallied 31 goals, 32 assists and 416 penalty minutes.
