Ullmark made 30 saves in his first regular season game as a Senator to lead Ottawa past the Panthers, 3-1, in the Canadian capital city.
He made eight saves in the first and six in the second, but it was the third period where the former Vezina Trophy winner endeared himself to his new fan base. He made 16 stops in the final frame with the Senators clinging to a 2-1 lead before Tim Stultze’s empty-netter sealed the win.
With both Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark seeking playing time and paychecks commiserate with being No. 1 goalies, the Bruins traded Ullmark to Ottawa during the offseason for a first-round pick, Mark Kastelic and Joonas Korpisalo. The Bruins used the pick to draft Dean Letourneau.
Ullmark signed a four-year extension Wednesday, three days after Swayman signed an eight-year extension. Both players are getting $8.25 million per season.
