Welcome in to the 7/21 edition of the Philly Hockey Now Daily!

Before we begin, I’ve a question for you. Has it felt like summer to you? I mean, maybe it’s just where I am at the shore, but it has seemed abnormally slow. The past few summers have been borderline chaotic. This summer, except for the 4th of July, every other weekend/holiday has felt almost like a letdown. It’s weird. It just does not feel like summer, and July is almost over!

Now, back to hockey.

A Flyers prospect has made a significant decision that will determine where he will spend the next season. Speaking of young Flyers, I took a stab at predicting the Flyers’ next big extension, and shared how I got to that number.

Around the league, The Athletic released a different kind of rankings, but a fun one. It seems if a consistent contender is set to lose their captain to retirement, and a familiar, but not-so-friendly face remains unsigned.

Get it all on the 7/21 edition of the PhHN Daily.

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: In case you missed it, Porter Martone has reportedly made a vital decision: where he will be playing this season. It looks like Martone will be joining another Flyers’ draft pick.

In other Flyers news, Matevi Michkov is eligible for a contract extension July 1st of 2026. Yes, it’s far away. However, the coming extensions for other young stars could have a significant impact on his next contract. What will Michkov’s next contract look like?

Make sure to check out our previous Philly Hockey Now Daily! Although he may no longer be an option, an update is provided on a potential Flyers trade target.

National Hockey Now, NHL Trade Rumors, & News

The Athletic ($): Have you ever wondered what every NHL Club, including the Utah Hockey Club (and not the Coyotes, RIP), best and worst jersey is? Well, The Athletic took a stab at picking the best and worst from each NHL club. Spoiler: I disagree with the worst for both Florida teams.

Not expecting Kopitar to sign an extension of any sort. Enjoy his final season in the NHL.

Mayor’s Manor: It looks like LA Kings Captain Anze Kopitar could be heading for retirement. The 37-year-old centerman is on an expiring contract, and per the report, he will not sign an extension. This hints at retirement for the star.

NYI Hockey Now: You may remember Maxim Tsyplakov as the kid who knocked Ryan Poehling out for an extended period of time. The Islanders see him as a young forward with a bright future. However, he remains unsigned, even as the arbitration period begins. Russ Macias breaks down his thoughts on the situation for NYHN.
