EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Less than two weeks after their best player, and Hobey Baker winner, Isaac Howard left for the NHL, the Michigan State hockey program continues to reload.
Adam Nightingale has landed a commitment from Porter Martone, who was selected 6th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in this year’s NHL draft.

While playing for the Brampton Steelheads in the OHL last season, Martone had 98 points (37 goals and 61 assists).
The 18-year-old is six-foot-three and will be a part of MSU’s 2025 freshman class, which features last year’s fourth overall pick, Cayden Lindstrom, and this year’s 26th overall pick, Ryker Lee.
This past November, the NCAA allowed Canadian junior players to be eligible to play Division 1 college hockey. This has led to some of the top Canadian prospects, such as Martone and Lindstrom, bringing their talents to the Big Ten.
