In humorous fashion, first-overall pick Matthew Schaefer was speaking to NHL analyst Paul Bissonnette when he referenced getting the former enforcer a nose job.

Matthew Schaefer’s personality and character are just as impressive, especially after being featured on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast.

During his sit-down with Paul Bissonnette and the staff, Schaefer did discuss his along-the-way struggles to being drafted first overall.

But the highlight moments came when the 18-year-old did some poking at Bissonnette’s expense, showing a welcome sense of humor for a young NHL prospect.

When asked what he would do with his first big paycheck, Schaefer joked half-seriously about giving Biz a nose job, eliciting chuckles and the kind of charm the league has been accused of not having at times.

Schaefer also poked fun at Bissonnette’s diet

Later, when asked about his off-season diet, he tossed in another lighthearted jab at the expense of the old enforcer.

“I think they want be on the Biz diet where you just eat whatever.”

While the trash talk was the talk of the town, Schaefer also publicly expressed his love for being an Islander, calling himself a “Lifer” and explaining how much he loves the organization and fans.

Whether or not he stays with the franchise long-term remains to be seen, but initial signs point to Schaefer being the next face of the Islanders.
