We have an acquisition to announce within the Montreal Canadiens organization, involving a 5-foot-9 defenseman.

The Canadiens’ ECHL affiliate, the Trois-Rivières Lions, have just announced the signing of the small defenseman Jacob Dion.

Jacob Dion Joins the Lions!

The Lions announce the arrival of Quebec-born defenseman Jacob Dion! An offensive defenseman, he stands out for his mobility and vision in all three zones. He’ll bring a dose of offense and energy to the lineup!

He will be present at training camp in a few weeks and is a new name to keep an eye on.

This looks like a good pickup for the Lions, and he’s definitely a young player who will try to crack the Laval Rocket’s lineup eventually – and who knows, maybe even the Montreal Canadiens roster one day.

Jacob Dion, 23 years old and originally from Stoke, Quebec, is a left-handed defenseman standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 177 pounds. He’s known for being very mobile.

He played four seasons with the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the QMJHL and had a very productive junior career.

If he were 6 feet tall, I’m pretty convinced he would have drawn NHL attention much earlier.

At age 17, he recorded 51 points in 63 games – as a defenseman, no less – including 17 goals.

At 18, he posted 24 points in 34 games, and at 19, he racked up 58 points in 67 games, finishing as the leading scorer for the Drummondville Voltigeurs (1st on the team)!

That’s a seriously impressive QMJHL career!

Later, at the Université de Moncton, Dion recorded 22 points in 30 games, 28 points in 29 games, and 22 points in 26 games.

He definitely has an intriguing profile!
