COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — The Gaudreau family, alongside friends and community members, is set to host the 1st Annual Gaudreau Family 5K Run/Walk & Family Day on May 31, 2025, at Washington Lake Park. The event, presented by Fanatics, aims to honor the legacy of John and Matthew Gaudreau, who tragically passed away last summer.
Proceeds from the event will fund the creation of an adaptive playground at Archbishop Damiano School (ADS) in Westville, N.J., which serves over 135 students with multiple disabilities.
Michele McCloskey, Executive Director and Principal of ADS, said, “To know the Gaudreau family is to know that family comes before all else. Their kindness and love continue to touch our hearts as they strive to live our mission and impact our students’ lives despite their loss.”
The event will feature a competitive 5K run, a fun run/walk, and various children’s activities, including a 1-mile run, face-painting, and games. Local police and fire departments will provide additional activities.
Michael Green, a committee member, highlighted the event’s broader impact, stating, “The lives of John and Matthew have left an indelible mark not just on our local community, but on countless individuals across the country and around the world.”
Participants can also join virtually, and a memorabilia auction will raise additional funds. The auction includes signed jerseys from athletes like Jalen Hurts and Peyton Manning, with a 2023 NHL All-Star Jersey signed by Johnny Gaudreau as the centerpiece.
