Nothing illustrates the difference between true NHL competition and the betting world than the fact that ex-Detroit player Jake Walman (+50,000) has the same odds to win the Norris Trophy in 2025-26 as Moritz Seider.
Filip Hronek, Shayne Gostisbehere, Vince Dunn, Travis Sanheim, Hampus Lindholm, Bo Byram and Jared Spurgeon are among the defensemen listed with Norris odds at +50,000 (500/1).
Cale Makar, as he should be, is the favorite at +125. Quinn Hughes is at +200 and Zach Werenski is third at +950. Nothing wrong with the ranking of the top Norris candidates. Their offensive might puts them well ahead of Seider. But it does feel like he doesn’t receive enough love in the Norris race. At age 24, he’s already among the most respected defensemen in the game. NHL.com ranked him the league’s No. 3 defenseman under 25. NHL.com ranked Seider as the No. 5 fantasy defenseman. That is based on rankings in goals, assists, power-play points, shots on goal, hits and blocked shots,
Traditionally, offense plays a significant role in determining the Norris outcome. That certainly doesn’t help Seider’s chances. But he put up 46 points last season and 50-55 doesn’t seem out of the question for the upcoming season. If he puts up 55 points to go along with his hitting, shot-blocking, physical presence and one-on-one play, he seems better than a 500/1 shot.y

Detroit’s Todd McLellan (+2500) is in the middle of the pack for odds to win the Jack Adams award for 2025-26 coach of the year. Utah Mammoth coach Andre Tourigny is the favorite at +750. Anaheim’s Joel Quenneville is second at +900. Montreal’s Martin St. Louis (+1100) is third. McLellan’s odds are not as good as Jeff Blashill’s (+2100). He’s the Blackhawks’ coach this season.
