Carolina Hurricanes at Washington Capitals

Series odds: Hurricanes -170, Capitals +140

Round 2 continues with the best of the Metropolitan Division as the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals face off at Capital One Arena.

Both teams advanced to the second round in five games. Dylan Strome led the Caps with nine points (two goals, seven assists) and Logan Thompson’s solid regular season continued through Round 1 with a 2.23 goals-against average and .923 save percentage against the Montreal Canadiens.

Sebastian Aho led the Hurricanes in the first round with eight points (three goals and five assists) while Andrei Svechnikov collected a team-leading five goals against the Devils. Carolina goaltender Frederik Andersen’s health is still in question following a collision with New Jersey’s Timo Meier in Game 4. Our experts have Tom Wilson and Seth Jarvis as a key matchup to watch as well.

Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights

Series odds: Oilers -110, Golden Knights -110

The Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights begin their best-of-seven at T-Mobile Arena, and it’s shaping up to be as tight a series as it gets.

These two powerhouse teams last met in the postseason in 2023, a barn-burner that memorably produced 312 penalty minutes and multiple suspensions. The Knights, of course, went on to win the Stanley Cup the following month.

This year’s Oilers are fresh off eliminating the Los Angeles Kings in the first round for the fourth consecutive year. They’re also fresh off falling one win short of a Stanley Cup last season. Can we expect some revenge between the Pacific Division rivals? As Daniel Nugent-Bowman writes, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl’s team is feeling good about its chances against Jack Eichel, Mark Stone and company this time.
