Michigan State hockey hit a home run when they earned the commitment of Edina (MN) forward Mason West. Following his commitment, West was selected in the first round of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks at No. 29.

While his hockey prowess is well known, what some may not know about West is the fact that 247Sports ranks him as a 3-star quarterback, where he holds three offers from FBS programs.

West, who is preparing for his hockey career continuing with the USHL’s Fargo Force, is also going to go back to Edina High School for his senior season of high school football as the QB of the Hornets.

To end this week, West was a guest on a high profile podcast hosted by former NFL head coach and commentator Jon Gruden. Gruden went in depth with West on both his football and hockey careers in a highly entertaining interview.

The interview with the very popular former coach, turned Barstool media personality, is worth the watch for Spartan fans, to get a glimpse of what the future Spartan is like.
