The dog days of summer continue to trickle by, especially in this awful heat. I swear, a couple more days of 90+ degree days, and we’ll all melt away.

Following Maxim Tsyplakov’s two-year contract extension, the New York Islanders’ summer is over. There may be some minor updates here and there, but the roster’s set for October.

While the team itself is set, it took a very bumpy summer. After the regime change, Cal Clutterbuck broke the ice with his podcast appearance a few weeks ago. Now, the dam is broken.

Matt Martin on Cam & Strick Pod:

Late last week, Islanders’ Assistant to the General Manager and former Islander Matt Martin sat down for a long, entertaining interview with the Cam & Strick Podcast.

In it, Martin discussed funny moments, including Bo Horvat asking his former teammate not to trade him and the 2011 Fight Night at the Coliseum against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Specifically about that game, Martin talked about how eager Josh Bailey was to drop the mitts and get some revenge on the Penguins.

There are so many wonderful nuggets in here, including insight on Noah Dobson‘s trade. Watch it all here:

Mathew Barzal on Fore Play Pod:

Boy, times are changing. Twice in one week, two Islanders’ players appear on major podcasts. Mathew Barzal sank two hole-in-ones last week on the golf course, so it only made sense to join one of the biggest golf podcasts around.

In it, Barzal giddily discussed Matthew Schaefer‘s arrival, along with a key injury update on himself as he continues to prepare for the upcoming season.
