The New Jersey native had a lustrous career at Penn State, finishing his tenure tied with Cole Hults for the most assists by a defenseman in program history with 61. In addition, Dowd posted 73 points and 12 goals while demonstrating stout defense on the blue and white’s blue line.

The 25-year-old led Penn State to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program’s first Frozen Four berth in 2025.

Dowd had a strong development camp with the Devils this summer, which led to his contract. His father, Jim, spent six years with the Devils organization, winning a Stanley Cup in 1995.
