KEARNEY, Neb. — The Tri-City Storm has announced the hiring of John Torchetti as their new head coach and Director and President of Hockey Operations. Torchetti, a seasoned veteran with over 40 years in professional hockey, steps into the role as the eleventh head coach in the franchise’s history.
Torchetti, 61, hails from Boston, Massachusetts, and brings a wealth of experience from his time as a player and coach. After retiring from playing in 1991, he began his coaching career with the Greensboro Monarchs in the ECHL. His NHL coaching journey started with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1999-00 season. Over the years, he has held various coaching positions with eight NHL teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks, where he was part of the 2010 Stanley Cup-winning staff.
“Glad to be joining one of the top developmental teams in the USHL and keep building players for college and the NHL moving forward,” said Torchetti. He expressed gratitude to Dave Vennetti, Andrew Bloomer, and Mark Jalcovik for the opportunity.
Mark Jalcovik, President of Business Operations for the Tri-City Storm, welcomed Torchetti, saying, “He is an outstanding communicator, and it became clear that John is the right person to help us maintain a winning program that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect.”
Torchetti replaces Marco Trevino, who recently accepted an assistant coach position with the Robert Morris College Colonials.
