A western Pennsylvania mother is charged with assaulting a 16-year-old hockey referee who removed her son from a game for unsportsmanlike conduct.
According to multiple reports, Andrea Bucci confronted the teen at the Robert Morris University Island Sports Complex on Neville Island in Allegheny County on July 20.
Bucci, a 38-year-old Allegheny County resident, is charged with assault on a sports official, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, according to online court records.
She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 2.
The Bucci family is now banned from the sports complex that offers year-round hockey in Pittsburgh’s western suburbs.
A criminal complaint filed against Andrea Bucci includes comments from the complex’s manager in which said she has had multiple problems with Bucci, reported KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh.
WTAE-TV reported that the 16-year-old referee told police that he kicked out Bucci’s son after he made a blindside hit on an opposing player.
As the referee removed Bucci’s son from the ice, she grabbed his shirt, KDKA-TV reported, citing a criminal complaint.
After the game, Bucci’s husband, Michael, spewed profanity toward the 16-year-old and lunged at him. Michael Bucci was not charged, though.
