The Washington Capitals are starting to make their way back to the ice ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, as informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex kicked off with a light group on Wednesday.

Per Monumental Sports Network’s Tarik El-Bashir, Logan Thompson and Matt Roy took the ice on Wednesday, along with Sam Anas, a Potomac, Maryland native and Hershey Bears alum, and Ottawa Senators winger Hayden Hodgson. Goaltending coach Scott Murray helped lead the scrimmage.

Thompson is coming off an impressive first year with the Capitals where he put up a 31-6-6 record with a .910 save percentage in the regular season before posting a .917 save percentage through 10 playoff games, and his play earned him a six-year extension.

He noted that he’d be staying around the D.C. area in the offseason and looking to get back on the ice earlier than usual to continue training.

Roy is also going into his second season with D.C. after signing a six-year contract to join the mix last summer. He proved to be a fundamental member of the blue line, picking up three goals and a career-high 21 assists, along with 113 blocks and 114 hits and a plus/minus rating of plus-18.

The group is small right now, but is expected to grow in the coming weeks as more and more players return to town.
