Former NHLer Jay Rosehill just dropped a bold claim: there’s only one team that makes sense for Connor McDavid‘s future, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs are expected to be heavy contenders to bring him in should he decide to test free agency, and they will certainly have a bunch of cap room to work with, and with radio silence from McDavid and Edmonton; things are heating up.
Leafs Named as Sole Fit for McDavid in Surprising Claim
For former Maple Leafs defenseman and Leafs Morning Take host Jay Rosehill, he believes that Toronto isn’t only a very likely destination for the Oilers captain; it’s the only one:
“I have no idea where Connor McDavid head is at. It is, I mean, I think that the chance of him leaving is small, but if he does leave, I think Toronto is the only destination that he would go to.
While Rosehill didn’t think McDavid is just going to jump ship, he does leave it open that if he does end up parting ways; Toronto is the only way to go.
Also for what it’s worth, his co-host Nick Alberga also tried to manifest McDavid as a Maple Leaf on social media.
Why One Franchise Stands Out Above the Rest
It makes sense too give that McDavid has been a fan since childhood, would undoubtedly become the biggest star the team has ever seen, and the amount of money and endorsements he could gain is actually bordering on absurd.
He would be the face of the franchise, every game would be a standing room only sellout, jerseys would fly off shelves, people would be clamouring for meet and greets; what he would do financially for the Maple Leafs alone is worth bringing him in.
But beyond that, you get the world’s greatest player who has dominated the NHL for the last decade. Last season, even though he missed 15 games, McDavid still managed 100 points (26 goals, 74 assists) and pushed his career total to 1,082 points in only 712 games.
You add McDavid to the mix and holy smokes, what a lineup:
Knies – McDavid – Nylander
Tavares – Matthews – Maccelli
It’s hard to argue that having McDavid and Matthews as 1/2 wouldn’t be the most dominant duo in the league, and the power play potential is out of this world. A five man power play with McDavid would feed families:
Knies – McDavid – Tavares
If McDavid were to come here, not only would he have the potential to make absurd amounts of money, but he would be part of arguably the most dangers lineup in the entire league.
Nothing beats coming home, and for Connor McDavid that proposition looks more and more realistic by the day.
