The Detroit Red Wings drafted Sweden forward Eddie Genborg (44th, 2025) more for his high rpm motor and hard-driving style than his scoring touch. But he can score, proven by a a tip-in in Sweden’s 8-4 win against Canada in the Summer Showcase. Genborg boasts a goal and an assist in four games at the tournament.

Genborg is viewed as a quality pick for Detroit, although he probably won’t be on the fast track to arrive in Detroit. He recently signed a two-year contract with Timra in the Swedish Hockey League, and presumably will spend a season with Grand Rapids before earning a place on Detroit’s roster.

He scored two goals in 28 games as a youngster playing for Linkoping in the Swedish Hockey League. Genborg had 19 goals in 28 games playing in the Swedish Junior League.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Czechia player Jakub Rychlovsky, undermined by injury last season, hasn’t given up his hope of playing in the NHL. His goal is to be sharp enough for the Grand Rapids Griffins to prove he deserves to be a Red Wing.

Detroit goalie prospect Rudy Guimond has announced he will play at Harvard after playing another season in the QMJHL.  He recently decommitted from Yale.

The Windsor Spitfires hope to put Red Wings prospect Michal Svrcek, but it may not happen.
