Welcome to Flyers morning notes. It’s sort of like a daily, but with just Flyers-related content. This is the first of this sort of thing I have done, so let me know how you feel about the concept!

Now, getting into the content.

Olympic season is growing closer and closer, and players with a chance at representing their country will be under an intense microscope until the final roster decisions are announced. Two Flyers were invited to an Olympic orientation as countries begin preparing for Milan.

In other Flyers news, one prospect, at a position of need, I might add, had a breakout party at the World Juniors Summer Showcase. Now he has earned the spotlight ahead of a crucial 2025-26 season.

Get all of that and more on the August 2nd edition of Flyers Morning Notes.

Travis Sanheim and Konecny Attend Canadian Olympic Orientation

As the season gets closer, so do the 2026 Winter Olympics. That said, teams are starting to get their rosters together for the Olympics. Travis Sanheim and Travis Konecny, who both represented Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off, were both invited to the Canadian Olympic Orientation.

Konecny was one of 26 forwards invited. Sanheim was one of 13 defensemen with an invite. Given that both players had experience from 4 Nations, it was logical that they received the invitation to orientation.

During the event, both players were on the bubble and not considered top-tier players in every game. Sanheim took advantage of an injury in the first game and did not look back. The Flyers defenseman played some of his best defensive hockey for Canada. He was even trusted to be on the ice at the beginning of overtime.

Konecny, on the other hand, started game 1 but was rotated in and out of the lineup, primarily with Seth Jarvis.

Nothing is certain. Just because they both were on the 4 Nations roster does not mean they will make the Olympic team. It will undoubtedly be a leg up, but it won’t be the difference maker. Both players will need a big early season to solidify their odds.

Flyers Prospect Jack Berglund’s Breakout

In other news, Flyers’ prospect Jack Berglund had himself a breakout party at the World Juniors Summer Showcase.

It was always deemed that there was not much beyond Jett Luchanko in the Flyers’ depth down the middle in the pipeline. Flyers GM Danny Briere always mentioned Berglund in those conversations as well. Now, we know why.

The Swedish centerman was every on the ice during the Summer Showcase, showing a combination of size, strength, physicality, and skill. He led the tournament with six points, including three goals and three assists. Berglund was initially named to the 2025 World Juniors roster, but missed the tournament due to injury. While it was never really a threat for him not to make the Swedish team this year, Berglund may have solidified a top-six role for himself after his breakout party in Minnesota.

The 19-year-old, 6’4″ center is set to play for Farjestad BK in the SHL this coming season.

In case you missed some of our recent stories:

Think the Flyers could use a sweater refresh? Or, how about a blast from the past? The Flyers could use a new alternate, and they have plenty of options to go with. Which Flyers jersey would you like to see brought back?

Do you have any bold predictions for the Flyers this season? Players returning to form, breakout candidates, heck, even the playoffs are on the table. We gave our bold predictions for the 2025-26 season. What are yours?

Jett Luchanko will lead to the most interesting yet important decision of the offseason. After getting four games in the NHL last season, the young center prospect was sent back to Guelph in the OHL. Was one more year in juniors enough for him to be NHL-ready? Or, should he return for another year of development? What is the right move with Luchanko?

How is it possible to make the right and wrong decision at the same time? Well, for us, Porter Martone did precisely that. The NCAA is absolutely the best place for him at this phase in his career. Michigan State is a fantastic place to develop. Despite that, something still feels wrong about his choice to bypass a chance at the NHL this season for the NCAA.
