This is the longest part of the hockey summer, and it isn’t particularly close. All business is done, except PTOs and last-minute UFA contracts to get handed out before training camps open in roughly 6–7 weeks.

For the New York Islanders, I wouldn’t expect any PTOs, except maybe for a veteran defenseman in case somehow both Isaiah George and Matthew Schaefer struggle in training camp. How the defense shakes out remains a bit open-ended.

Beyond that, the forward group will be filled with healthy competition, but nothing’s set in stone. With Jean-Gabriel Pageau headlining the team’s potential trade options later in the season, flexibility will be key.

With the dog days of August settling in, what better time to open up the mailbag? Submit any questions, Islanders or even non-Islanders related, and I’ll get to as many as I can.
