Team Canada Makes Eye-Opening Olympic Decision on Former Vancouver Canucks Captain

A former Vancouver Canuck was among those named to the roster for Canada’s 2026 Olympic Training Camp, which will be held later this month in Calgary, Alberta.
We’re a little over six months away from National Hockey League players returning to the Winter Olympics for the first time since 2014 and if the 4 Nations Face-Off was any indication, it’s certainly going to be an entertaining battle from the moment puck drops on the preliminary round on February 11th.Back in June, all 12 participating nations announced the first six players on their respective rosters and to no one’s surprise Quinn Hughes was named to the United States’, marking his return to the men’s national team for the first time since the 2019 IIHF World Championship.Along with Hughes and Teddy Blueger, who will be representing Latvia, there will be almost certainly be at least one more Vancouver Canuck at the Winter Games (likely Elias Pettersson – Sweden), and we could also see a number of the team’s former players suit up for their respective nations, including an ex-captain.
Former Vancouver Canucks captain named to Canada’s Olympic training camp roster
On Friday afternoon, Hockey Canada announced their Olympic training camp rosters for their men’s, women’s and paralympic teams, with a total of 96 players, 42 of whom are NHLers vying to represent their country on the biggest stage.
They’ll be joined by some young talent as a pair of budding stars from British Columbia – Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini are also looking to wear the Maple Leaf on their sweater in February.
“We are excited to unveil the 92 athletes who will kick off the road to Italy, and to bring our men’s, women’s and para hockey teams together for three days as the first step towards our goal of winning triple gold in February. While the next several months will bring intense evaluation and difficult roster decisions, we look forward to kicking off the season in Calgary and giving our athletes and staff a chance to come together and start to become one team as we set our sights on February.” Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada’s senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations said.
There will also be a very familiar face in attendance for Vancouver Canucks fans as the team’s former first round pick and captain, Bo Horvat, was among 26 forwards invited to camp starting on August 26th.
Final rosters for all 12 of the participating nations are expected to be announced at some point in early on in January 2026, one month before the tournament gets underway in Milan, Italy.
Canada will open up the 2026 Winter Olympics on February 12th against Czechia before facing Switzerland on February 15th and wrapping up the preliminary round on February 15th against France, all of which will be on television through CBC, TSN and Sportsnet.
